Ceea ce diferențiază Objects, Models, Components, Patterns de documentația tehnică standard sau de manualele de programare este rigoarea academică aplicată unor probleme practice de inginerie. Remarcăm faptul că acest volum nu se rezumă la prezentarea unor funcționalități, ci analizează fundamentele teoretice ale sistemelor orientate pe obiecte, oferind perspective critice asupra modului în care modelele și componentele interacționează în medii complexe.

Structura volumului reflectă o progresie de la concepte abstracte de meta-modelare (precum MetaDepth) către aplicații practice în sisteme distribuite și rețele ad hoc mobile. Observăm o atenție deosebită acordată verificării și calității codului, prin secțiuni dedicate testării bazate pe contracte în JavaScript și izolării mediilor de execuție prin Moles. Prezența unor nume de referință în domeniu, precum Bertrand Meyer sau Ivar Jacobson, garantează o viziune de ansamblu asupra evoluției paradigmelor de programare.

Complementar volumului ECOOP 2013 -- Object-Oriented Programming, care se concentrează pe modularitate și concurență, această ediție TOOLS 2010 pune un accent mai puternic pe instrumente specifice (EriLex) și pe optimizarea mecanismelor aspect-orientate pentru aplicații embedded. Credem că selecția riguroasă a celor 16 lucrări oferă o imagine fidelă a cercetării de vârf din perioada respectivă, fiind un punct de referință pentru înțelegerea evoluției limbajelor moderne și a metodelor de verificare a programelor.

It is a pleasure to present the proceedings of the 48th TOOLS Europe Conf- ence (TOOLS 2010) held in M alaga, Spain. The conference continues to serve a broad object-oriented community with a technical program spanning theory and practice. The program was rounded out with keynotes by Oege De Moor, Ivar Jacobson and Bertrand Meyer, and a banquet speech by Jean Bzivin. The proceedings include 16 papers selected from 60 submissions. The papers were reviewed in a single-blind process with 4-7 reviews per paper. The Program Committee (PC) discussions followed Oscar Nierstrasz Champion pattern. PC papers had additional reviews and were held at a higher standard. For the ?rst time this year, TOOLS had a PC meeting which combined in-person discussions and electronic presence. TOOLS owes is success to the e'orts of many.
