Casa arată cum trebuie în opinia doctorului Louis Creed. Veche și confortabilă. Un loc pentru o familie liniștită și pentru copii care se pot juca și explora în voie.
Peisajele din Maine par foarte îndepărtate de tumultul și pericolele orașului Chicago. 
Doar ocazionalul zgomot al camionului care străbate autostrada ridică o umbră frisonantă asupra căminului fericit.
