Argumentative Discourse: From Strategic Maneuvering to Argumentative Style
Autor Frans H. Van Eemeren, Ton van Haaftenen Limba Engleză Paperback – 18 mar 2026
Enabling students to understand how they can successfully prepare oral and written argumentative discourse, this book provides a pragma-dialectical approach to argumentation. It demonstrates what is involved in approaching argumentative discourse from the perspective of strategic maneuvering and allows students to put their skills and knowledge into practice through end-of-chapter exercises. It also provides readers with a set of rules for choosing between reasonable and fallacious argumentative moves and a series of recommendations for selecting argumentative styles.
Written by leading experts, this book will be of interest to students and scholars of Argumentation, Communication Studies, Linguistics, Philosophy, and Law.

Recenzii
“Twenty years ago, van Eemeren and Houtlosser introduced the concept of strategic maneuvering with the potential to combine insights from dialectic and rhetoric. This new book by van Eemeren and van Haaften brings the concept to the center, strengthening the power of argumentative discourse.”
David Zarefsky, Professor Emeritus, Northwestern University, USA
“Argumentative Discourse stands out for its brilliantly systematic structure and clarity, making the study of argumentation highly accessible. This comprehensive and up-to-date guide is profoundly reader-friendly, masterfully balancing theoretical depth with practical utility. It effectively equips readers with the tools to analyze, evaluate and construct argumentation.”
