Literary Translation in Peripheral Contexts: How Foreignness Enters the World: Routledge Advances in Translation and Interpreting Studies

Autor Hunam Yun
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 13 oct 2026
Yun explores how foreign elements from peripheral cultures navigate translation landscapes dominated by fluency-focused approaches and examines diverse translation strategies, ranging from conventional fluency methods to counter-normative and cultural translation techniques, demonstrating how foreign elements can successfully permeate target cultures.
Through English translation case studies, the book shows how counter-normative and cultural translation approaches can challenge dominant translation paradigms. It critically analyzes how the Anglo-American emphasis on "fluency" often erases cultural distinctiveness and also provides practical strategies for preserving underrepresented voices in translated literature.
An essential book for researchers and scholars across translation studies, cultural studies, literary studies, and world literature, as well as those interested in examining the complex relationships between cultures and their communication methods.
