Autor Laurie E. Westphal
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 15 oct 2010
The Differentiating Instruction With Menus series offers teachers exciting tools to challenge and reach both gifted and advanced students in the classroom. Whether these students need enrichment, choice in independent practice, or even additional academic options resulting from curriculum compacting, these books provide teachers a complete ready-to-use resource. Each book includes a rubric that can assess different types of products, free choice proposal forms to encourage independent study, specific guidelines for each of the products included in the menus to save the teacher time, and challenging menus to meet the needs of these diverse higher level learners.

Differentiating Instruction With Menus: Language Arts (Grades K-2) contains attractive reproducible menus, based on the levels of Bloom's revised taxonomy, that students can use as a guide when making decisions about which products they will develop after they study a major concept or unit. Topics addressed include book genres, mechanics, and literature. The products included on the menu are carefully selected from various learning styles to build students' excitement and so that teachers can more accurately assess the depth of what has been learned. Using creative and challenging choices found in Three-Shape Menus, Tic-Tac-Toe Menus, Meal Menus, Give Me Five Menus, 2-5-8 Menus, and List Menus, students will look forward to sharing their newfound knowledge throughout the year!

Recenzii

This math workbook is a great supplement for teachers to provide engaging activities for their advanced students to practice and apply math skills. The menus allow students to choose activities that align with their interests and strengths, promoting engagement and ownership of their learning. The activities are hands-on and exercise not only the specific math skill of topic, but also integrate background knowledge and other higher order thinking skills, such as complex reasoning, flexible thinking, and planning.

The differentiating Instruction with Menus series is one of my favorite series. It happens to be one of my most used series to date . . . if I were a teacher who had 3rd through 5th grade students, this book series is one I would get. In regards to Math, what I like about this book are the menus. Laurie gives a short description of the type of menu along with the benefits, limitations, and time considerations. Everything that a teacher would need to know about a type of menu is there. There are also several menus that are listed that a math teacher can use in their classroom linked to State Standards . . . This resource can be used in a classroom setting, or homeschool setting. Not only would I suggest you use this book, but also use the whole series.,Jeffrey Shoemaker,Gifted Intervention Specialist, 5/23/16
