Ah yes, another case of "Why didn't I get the whole series from the start?", although I really appreciate that it has a proper ending, despite being the first of three books. Out of all the great bits you can find in this novel, the world building stands out for me, as it's very imaginative and feels fresh. Kinda post-apocalyptic, medieval, filled with sorcerers and wizards whose magic is not understood by the common folk. Plot's great too (no use spilling it out) and the main character, Captain Galharrow, is interesting to follow. Not the biggest fan of first person narration but works well enough here. 4.5*
