A little more meat on the bone (about one or two hundred pages worth) would have benefited Aftershocks greatly. A proper ending too. The action takes place in a single system, where the main factions are in an uneasy peace following a recent war. There are some previously unknown stealth ships up to some nasty and mysterious business. We have POV characters. Ships that rely (partially) on acceleration for gravity. This book feels like The Expanse lite, as the similarities continue. The characters are mostly shallow, although I've just finished The First Law series, where they were stellar, so maybe my expectations were too high. Or maybe I've spent too little time with them, as the book is only 288 pages long and there are four main characters. The world building is OK, although not very detailed and the tech feels uneven. Gravity generators and AI exist but you still have human shop attendants helping you pick out your phone. Plot was interesting enough to make me curious about what happens next, unlike another similar novel that I've read recently - Embers of War. I was disappointed by the ending too, as I was expecting at least a cliffhanger or something of the kind, not an abrupt stop with no resolution whatsoever.
