Recenzii
Review from previous edition Ingrid Hanson's wide-ranging selection from Morris's prolific writings identifies new points of interest in his oeuvre without neglecting those parts of it that mattered most to earlier generations
Our familiarity now with the look of Morris & Co. shouldn't diminish the astonishing range and capacity that these texts reveal ... By proposing that Morris saw art as a form of cultural combat, this volume moves Morris's program much closer to the twentieth-century avant-gardes than the cloistered intensities of Pre-Raphaelite interiors might suggest. This volume excels ... at revealing the politics of Morris's designs, and the personal energies that went into them.
Hanson strikes a balance between the representative, the surprising and the obligatory, pushing us to ask anew how we might connect his prodigious if uneven writing with his dizzying array of concerns.
A generous, well-conceived, and dexterously presented treasury of Morris's work. [...] Hanson has resoundingly succeeded at giving us a Morris for the twenty-first century. How fortunate the student or lay reader who encounters his work through the medium of this handsome volume.
