From the ashes of a ruined civilization scorched in the atomic holocaust rises a new empire dominated by the Tyrant de Santa Fe. As a man, Luther Daylight is called upon by the ancient One True God to found a ministry and to walk the earth spreading the gospel denouncing Malsuvious, the God of the Wastelands and its idol. Luther Daylight becomes the Lord's Reluctant Messiah and he grapples with the fact he is following in the footsteps of the former so called Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. Luther speculates if he continues doing as his God expects him to do, he will only end up being put to death all the same as Jesus was.
