The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic poem set during the Trojan War. It tells of the battles and events during the weeks of a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles. The Iliad is paired with The Odyssey considered somewhat of a sequel, is among the oldest works of Western literature. Homer is revered as the greatest of ancient Greek epic poets. His epics lie at the beginning of the Western canon of literature, and have had an enormous influence on the history of literature.
