I don't think words can properly describe how much I adored SHADOW & BONE. The characters, the world-building...it completely blew me away. There were moments when I was so stunned by the beauty and the brilliance that I had to stop reading. I never wanted this book to end. The book had incredibly good pace, and it was truly action riddles. The descriptions of opulence and grandeur, and likewise destruction and chaos were vivid, yet not excessively detailed. i felt like the book prodded and pushed your imagination but didn't try to override it, something i truly appreciated. i just have an inexplicable pull towards all things dark and evil, and then right there in the middle a beacon of light coming to the rescue. I love Mal, and will continue to do so for eternity, because every powerful and troubled heroine needs to be an emotional damsel every once in a while, and who better than the handsome boy who you've been secretly in love with for the past couple of years. I feel however, there is more to the darkling, and i hope we get to see the different side as the book progresses. Cant wait to read the next book!!!!

Într-adevăr,primul volum este unul care introduce cititorul in lumea Ravkăi și îi sunt prezentate personajele și darurile acestora,acțiunea intesificându-se spre final. Alina Starkov își începe aventura drept cartograf. In cadrul armatei Ravkăi,aceasta desena hărți. Când prietenul cel mai bun al Alinei,Mal,este obligat sa intre in Falie,o porțiune de pământ înconjurată de magie neagră și întuneric,porțiune plină de bestii și monștrii,Alina decide sa facă o fapta nesăbuită și sa meargă după prietenul ei. Ajunși in interiorul Faliei,aceștia sunt atacați,iar Alina descoperă cine este menit sa devină. Alina își descoperă puterea,aceea de a invoca lumina și faptul ca nu este doar o simpla cartografă,dar o invocatoare și o Grisha! Pe tot parcursul volumului,Alina învață lucruri despre lumea in care tocmai a fost aruncată și se maturizează,acceptând ca poate ea este singura speranța a locuitorilor din Ravka. Cartea poate sa fie văzută și ca un bildungsroman,urmărindu-se maturizarea și evoluția eroinei. Diferitele puteri ale oamenilor Grisha mi s-au părut unul dintre cele mai interesante și bine descrise concepte din carte. Autoarea reușește sa îmbine știința și magia,rezultatul fiind unul de excepție. Secrete,trădări și sentimente care pot sa distrugă lumea,”Shadow and bone” la îmbina pe toate,conturând o lume incredibila.

Nu stiu daca mi-a placut sfarsitul serialului sau nu. Conlcuzia finala al cartii nu era atat de uimitor. Raul este invins si eroii castig. Era un happy end clasic

Aww such a beautiful ending! Kinda sad but still so beautiful! Loved it! And now I absolutely can't wait for King of Scars! This book was awesome! The plot was great, the pace was good, I loved the characters and the character development and I liked the writing. I never got bored, it was a great story. Alina's character was pretty good, Mal redeemed himself for me in this one, he made me like him again, I loved Nikolai as always, Tamar and Tolya were great, actually got to like Genya a bit more, liked all the Grisha, David, Zoya, Harshaw, Nadia, Adrik, Stigg, even Sergei, Baghra was interesting, Misha was so cute, and... The Darkling! My goodness! I loved the Darkling in this one too! And the interaction between Alina and the Darkling was the best! Alina and Mal were great, and gosh the Darkling and Baghra! Oh, but still hated the Apparat, he was still a creep. Don't like him.

In this absolutely STUNNING (I don't know what else to call it) conclusion to the New York Times Bestselling Trilogy, everything you know about this world and the things in it will change. Love, loyalty, friendship, survival, power, victory, and freedom - everything is at stake. And one broken saint, a disgraced tracker, and a whole gang of misfits and a prince without a throne are all that stands between light and dark. If you choose not to read this, you are missing out on one of the BEST series ever. The ending was absolutely stunning, the finale heart-breaking, the story so realistic. I'm actually going to need time to process what I've just read - READ IT!
What an amazing ride the Grisha series has been! Brilliant, classic high fantasy on one hand and yet unique and unpredictable on the other. So many twists that I did not in the slightest see coming, and which developed or resolved situations perfectly. Genius storytelling revealing complete mastery of poor defenceless reader emotions as well as fabulous world-building and skillfull character development. Such a satisfying ending too - no mean feat to pull off, but she did it. If you're hesitating to finish this trilogy for fear it could let you down, stop messing about right now and get on with it.

Ruin and Rising left me teary-eyed and contented. I didn't want to leave these characters and yet it just felt SO right. Everything came together and was revealed and resolved and it was just a perfect and beautiful ending and I couldn't have wished for anything more. Leigh certainly delivered. It did the series justice and lived up to its previous two books spectacularly. Thank you so much for sharing Alina's adventure Leigh. I, and many others I'm sure, are extremely grateful. Without a doubt: 5 stars!
A captivating and endlessly exhilarating story that knows no limits. Ruin and Rising is the breathtaking conclusion to the dark fantasy trilogy Shadow and Bone. This story has everything that you never imagined you would want and makes it even better than you could ever fathom. If you have not considered the books or haven't heard of them then I strongly recommend you do because they will fast become your favorite books.
It's difficult to put the beauty of this series into words, as it has to be read in its entirety to be fully appreciated. The careful weaving of magic, fantasy and fairytale comes to a close with a finale that feels like the perfect ending for all involved. There are surprises galore and more than a few emotional, heart-wrenching moments, as the loose ends are tied up with graceful finesse. I cannot praise this series highly enough, so don't be deterred by the YA genre tag - it truly does appeal to all ages.
Praise for Leigh Bardugo: I was away on the ships and wandering through Ravka with Alina and Mal, I was on the receiving end of his kisses and his annoyances. I felt the sun warm the pages whenever Alina summoned and I felt the fear when The Darkling was around. There is nothing I don't love about the world in which the Grisha trilogy is set and I cannot wait until next year to see how this series is going to conclude.

Praise for the Grisha trilogy: It is one of those series which as a YA reader is a must read. It is series which grabs hold of you by the neck and wrings every emotion out until you are a blabbering, quivering, drooling mess on your sofa. It is high fantasy at its best and I can guarantee that you will not regret picking up this book.

Leigh Bardugo was born in Jerusalem, raised in Los Angeles, and graduated from Yale University. She is fond of glamour, ghouls, and costuming, and gets to indulge all of these fancies in her other life as a makeup artist. She can occasionally be heard singing with her band, Captain Automatic.
