Brian Winter is editor-in-chief of Americas Quarterly and vice president for policy at Americas Society/Council of the Americas. He has spent more than twenty-five years following Latin American politics and culture, including a decade in the region as a Reuters correspondent and five years living in São Paulo. He lives in New York and returns to São Paulo several times a year.

His books include the New York Times bestseller Why Soccer Matters, written with football phenomenon Pelé, and The Accidental President of Brazil, co-written with former Brazilian president Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Foreign Affairs has called Winter “one of the best chroniclers and analysts of Latin America,” and GloboNews has called him “the best foreign expert on Brazil of this moment.” A regular international media commentator and frequent speaker at universities and policy events, his work connects Brazilian culture and politics with audiences across the United States, Latin America, and beyond.
