Recidivist Victims in Psychoanalysis: The Attachment to Suffering and the Hope for Repair: Relational Perspectives Book Series

Autor Tahirí Rojas
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 24 aug 2026
This groundbreaking book explores the understudied phenomenon of victimization recurrence, introducing the clinically robust concept of the recidivist victim and translating it into an innovative diagnostic tool: the Clinical Spectrum of Recidivist Victims, developed from over twenty years of clinical practice.
Drawing from extensive psychotherapeutic experience and doctoral research in forensic psychology, Dr. Rojas presents a relational psychoanalytic framework that maps the range of psychological positions individuals may occupy in relation to repeated harm — from those who remain caught in recurrent victimization without awareness, to those who have moved out of victimization as an organizing position in their lives. Each position within the spectrum is clinically characterized through its subjective, relational, and embodied dimensions. Using embodied language, the book interweaves theoretical foundations with clinical vignettes and personal narratives, offering clear concepts and practical tools for addressing traumatic repetition without reducing it to willpower or individual deficit.
Written with depth, sensitivity, and ethical commitment, this book is intended for clinicians, researchers, and practitioners, as well as for anyone who believes they are —or have been — caught in recurring patterns of victimization and seeks to understand them without judgment.

Recenzii

"This magnificent book delves into the ways certain people become trapped in recurring cycles of harm. It explores how early experiences, meaningful relationships, and unresolved wounds can shape a life in persistent ways, even when there is already awareness of the suffering. The aim is to understand these processes without simplifying them, acknowledging the internal tensions that sustain repetition and the immense effort involved in trying to break free from it.
Throughout the text, the author offers a perspective that accompanies with care the subtle movements of change—those initial shifts that are not always easy to perceive, yet signal the possibility of another direction. This is a book for readers seeking to understand up close what unfolds when harm leaves deep traces and, even so, there remains an impulse to carve out a different path. It is a work that offers an honest and respectful reading, attentive to the complexity of every story."
Roberto Vargas Ph.D.

"The clinical value of the book that Tahirí Rojas offers us is incalculable. It helps us understand the broad spectrum formed by victims of abuse and the different characteristics each one has. Additionally, it addresses each of the aspects that converge for a person to organize themselves to function as a victim: from their context and life history to how this influenced the structuring of their subjectivity. And of enormous importance is that it shows us how victims can be helped to leave behind that way of being in the world."
 Claudia Villanueva-Kuri Ph.D.
