Mind, Model and Complexity: River Publishers Rapids Series in Computer Engineering and Information Science and Technology
Autor Rakesh Senguptaen Limba Engleză Paperback – 21 dec 2026
Beginning with the historical roots of cognitive theory, the book traces the evolution from early mechanistic views to information-processing models and the rise of the computational metaphor. From there, it explores how ideas such as emergence, self-organization, and nonlinearity challenge traditional reductionist approaches. Drawing on dynamical systems theory, network science, and algorithmic complexity, the text reveals how complex interactions give rise to thought, perception, and meaning.
A defining strength of Mind, Model and Complexity is its seamless integration of formal modeling with philosophical insight. Readers are introduced to powerful computational tools—including neural networks and genetic algorithms—and shown how they illuminate learning, perception, and language acquisition. At the same time, the book critically examines the limits of these models, emphasizing the vital roles of embodiment, environment, and context in shaping cognition.
The book also connects complexity science to pressing contemporary questions. It examines how complex systems perspectives deepen our understanding of mental health, decision-making, and social behavior, revealing how individual minds are embedded within larger cultural and biological networks.
By weaving together history, theory, and practice, Mind, Model and Complexity offers a rich and integrated vision of the mind as an evolving system rather than a static machine. Engaging, rigorous, and forward-looking, it challenges readers to see cognition not as a set of isolated processes, but as an emergent phenomenon shaped by interaction, adaptation, and change.

Notă biografică
Dr.RakeshSengupta has been a researcher and Assistant Professor at School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences, Krea University, Sri City, India since 2025, holding a Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad (2015). His interdisciplinary background spans developmental and educational psychology, cognitive and computational neuroscience, and creative cognition. With a growing scholarly record (25 publications, ~300 citations, h-index of 9) and robust collaborations across psychology and brain research communities, he brings both empirical rigor and a multicultural perspective essential for cognitive science. He is actively involved in experiments combining behavioral assessment and neuroscientific measures (e.g., EEG, eyetracking) to explore cognitive faculties in culturally grounded settings.
Descriere
The book Mind, Model and Complexity explores how complexity science reshapes our understanding of the mind through emergence, self-organization, and nonlinearity. It bridges philosophy, cognitive science, and computational modeling to highlight processes like perception, learning, and language.
