Green was one of the first writers of detective fiction in America and distinguished herself by writing well plotted, legally accurate stories. First published in 1898, this story features detective Ebenezer Gryce of the New York Metropolitan Police Force and nosy society spinster Amelia Butterworth who appear in several of her other novels.
