—Neil Gaiman
Lord of Light is a classic tale of the far future from the incomparable Roger Zelazny. Winner of the Hugo Award—one of six Zelazny received over the course of his legendary career, as well as three Nebula Awards and numerous other honors—Lord of Light stands with Joe Haldeman’s The Forever War and Frank Herbert’s Dune as one of the seminal novels that changed the way readers looked at science fiction. Experience it and you will understand why New York Times bestselling sf author Greg Bear says, “Reading Zelazny is like dropping into a Mozart string quartet as played by Thelonius Monk.”

Victor Tanasa a dat nota:
Not the easiest read, but very rewarding once you get the hang of things. I've seen it described as a blend of Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but it's more of a Fantasy setting with subtle hints of technology, with the author teasing us with "chariot of the gods in the form of a Tau cross that shoots beams of light and fire comes out of it's tail" kinda stuff. Style wise, it's pretty poetic, with lots of thou's, thee's and so on. Often, it's quite funny, with insults like "Go peel bananas with your feet!" - very entertaining to see characters jousting (with words and weapons alike). The structure is a bit weird too, and combined with time jumps and LOTS of characters make it a bit hard to follow at times. Overall, it's quite a peculiar book that I enjoyed a lot and I'm sure I'll get even more out of it when I read it again. Sometime.

Imagine a distant world where gods walk as men, but wield vast and hidden powers. Here they have made the stage on which they build a subtle pattern of alliance, love, and deadly enmity. Are they truly immortal? Who are these gods who rule the destiny of a teeming world?
Their names include Brahma, Kali, Krishna and also he who was called Buddha, the Lord of Light, but who now prefers to be known simply as Sam. The gradual unfolding of the story - how the colonization of another planet became a re-enactment of Eastern mythology - is one of the great imaginative feats of modern science fiction.
Winner of the Hugo Award for best novel, 1968.
