The book is titled Living with Merlin wherien Merlin is actually the name of a dog but this story is not about the dog. Bringing in Merlin is used to give it a timeline and to give it a theme. The book is about moving from despair and grief to feeling that life is worthwhile, meant to be lived to the fullest and yes happy too.
