In a world where humans and vampires are locked in a deadly war, a man driven by revenge must make the ultimate sacrifice to save humankind by becoming the thing he hates most-a vampire.

Vampires killed everyone Caius Varros held close. Now the preeminent vampire hunter of the Preylands, Caius is skilled in all forms of combat and dedicated to a noble code of chivalry, protecting the weak and vulnerable.

On a routine rescue mission in the vampire lands, Caius is captured by Aurelia, the heir to one of the three vampire Emperors. She craves control of the vampires, and proposes a deal: Caius will kill the Emperors, including her own mother, so that Aurelia can rule. In return, Aurelia promises to end the pointless war between vampires and humans. But in order to take the deal and infiltrate the empire, Caius will have to make the ultimate sacrifice: he must become a vampire himself.

When Caius agrees, he has no idea how the life of a vampire-the seduction, the decadence, and the self-loathing-will change him. And when he falls for Aurelia, he must decide: will he risk the fate of humanity for a single vampire?
