Caius Varros is the most feared hunter in the Preylands. As a child, he watched vampires slaughter his family, setting him on the harsh path of a Paladin. Now, armed with god-blessed weapons and a relentless code, he is dedicated to defending humankind... and feeding the vengeance he hungers for.
But when a routine mission ends in a brutal ambush, Caius is forced into an unthinkable bargain by Aurelia, the imperious and deadly heir to one of the three vampire Emperors. She'll spare his captured squire if Caius agrees to help her assassinate the emperors - her own mother included - and seize the throne. In return, Aurelia promises a ceasefire in the endless blood wars.
But to infiltrate her ruthless court, Caius must make the ultimate sacrifice: he must be turned into the very monster he has spent his life destroying - and serve as Aurelia's consort.
He has no idea how the life of a vampire - the seduction, the decadence, the self-loathing - will change him, yet he can't help but see this dangerous game will put him exactly where he always dreamed of being: perfectly placed to destroy the immortal empire from the inside.
Even if it costs him his soul.
