The aim of the book is to provide thorough critical interrogation of the phenomenon of the design school. In particular, it explores the design school's current and past condtioning, values, worth, functions and form. The enquiry is structured around a rich study of a range of key international design schools, and draws on interviews with leading educators from across the world. The book looks back over almost 100 years of the design school, from its establishment in 1919 by the Bauhaus to its experience of numerous educational challenges and crises, considers its current status, and speculates about its future.
