Public țintă
Primary audiences:UK oncologists in training and non–training posts. One core audience would be Oncology Registrars, of whom there are currently more than 500 in the UK (Centre for Workforce Intelligence, Medical Oncology, 2011). 366 units provide anti–cancer treatment in the UK and each of these units has a range of junior doctors who treat oncology patients. These doctors include Foundation Doctors, Senior House Officers (e.g. Core Medical Trainees and doctors on the GP training scheme) and Staff Grade doctors. There are currently over 9,000 doctors in various Foundation Year 2 and Core Medical Training schemes (Royal College of Physicians, CT1 Recruitment, 2011) and about 20% of these doctors will undertake posts in Oncology or related specialties.
Secondary audiences:
European oncologists / trainees: Although this book is mainly tailored to UK Oncology practice, much of the information would also be of interest to European doctors working in Oncology and therefore this could be a substantial secondary market.
Senior Oncology nurses and Nurse Practitioners have an increasing role in triaging patients admitted to Cancer Units and initiating management (particularly out of hours) and there are more than 2,770 cancer specialist nurses in England alone (National Cancer Action Team, Clinical Nurse Specialists in Cancer Care; Provision, Proportion and Performance. A census of the cancer specialist nurse workforce in England 2010).
Pharmacists have also been trained in some hospitals to assess patients regarding their fitness to proceed with chemotherapy.
Oncology consultants: Although the book is aimed at oncology trainees, some oncology consultants may also find it a useful reference guide.
General practitioners and non–oncology specialists: There are more than 41,000 GPs in the UK BMA, Briefing Paper – General Practitioners, 2010) as well as Emergency Medicine doctors, Neurologists, Gastroenterologists, Urologists, etc. who all come into contact with cancer patients.
