Chen
is
a
Professor
and
Dean
of
the
College
of
Marine
Science
and
Technology,
Shanghai
Fisheries
University.
He
is
associate
editor
of
the
Canadian
Journal
of
Fisheries
and
Aquatic
Sciences,
and
a
member
of
the
editorial
boards
of
Fisheries
and
Aquaculture,
China
Fisheries,
Fisheries
and
Aquaculture
and
the
Chinese
Journal
of
Oceanology
and
Limnology.
He holds a Master of Science in Fishery from Shanghai Fisheries University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Natural Resources Management from Nanjing Agricultural University.
His research interests include fisheries biology, fisheries stock assessment and management, fisheries oceanography, fisheries economics, and oceanic squid fishery.
He has published a number of books in Chinese, including Theory and Methods of Sustainable Use of Fisheries Resources, Bio-economics of Marine Fisheries Resource, Biology of Fisheries and Fisheries Oceanography, and Introduction to Fisheries.

He is the Executive Director of the Fishery Development Strategy Study Centre of China, Chairman of the Chinese State Education Ministry’s education steering committee for fisheries science, and an advisor to the Chinese Fisheries Association and the Deep Sea Fisheries Association of China. He is a member of the 7th, 8th and 9th Council of Asia Fisheries Forum; and the State Council of China’s 5th committee for academic degrees. Further he is a member of the editorial boards of Fisheries Research, and the International Journal of Environment Biology of Fish.
He holds a BSc. in Industrial Fishing from the Shanghai Fisheries College. His research interests include the mechanics of fishing gear and selectivity, fish behavior, and fisheries management. He has published three textbooks in Chinese: Application Fish Behaviour; Introduction to Fisheries; and Fishing Gear Mechanics.
