A Complete Guide to Rubrics: Assessment Made Easy for Teachers, K-College

Autor Audrey M. Quinlan
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 10 noi 2011
This book takes a developmental perspective at the use of scoring rubrics to assess student work. Citing developmental characteristics of each age, the author presents examples and adaptations of assessment rubrics on a variety of subjects for teachers from kindergarten through adult/college. After a presentation of foundation information on rubrics, separate chapters are devoted to each grade level from primary through adult. Written so that each chapter can be addressed independently, the book provides additional chapters devoted to assessing technological topics and using rubrics with students with special needs. The final chapters provide practical information to help teachers to create their own rubrics and to covert rubric scores to letter grades. An updated annotated listing of recommended rubric websites is included.

Recenzii

Audrey Quinlan has created a unique instrument that focuses on a developmental perspective of the use of rubrics to assess student work. This teacher-friendly text allows the educator to create a unique and informative assessment for children's work through the rubric process. Additionally, each chapter provides a wealth of information that teachers can successfully use in the classroom. This is an amazing effort to make assessment of student work reliable and useful for the busy professional.
Quinlan provides numerous examples of checklists and rubrics used by real teachers in real classrooms, as well as sound advice on how to create and find rubrics. Unlike other books about rubrics, however, this book draws on children's developmental characteristics and common curricular benchmarks to recommend useful approaches to assessment. This book can help teachers at every grade level, from kindergarten through college, craft a variety of ways to fairly assess student work.
The way this book addresses special education is excellent! The chapter on special needs clearly outlines the benefits of using rubrics to differentiate students from all aspects of the special needs curriculum, including gifted students. It also provides examples of rubrics for many different student needs and grade levels, from elementary to high school. As a teacher who has experience in both special ed and general ed curricula, I find this book very helpful!
