Ways to Make Sunshine

Autor Renée Watson Ilustrat de Nina Mata
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 28 apr 2020 – vârsta până la 11 ani
From Newbery Honor and Coretta Scott King Author Award winner Ren e Watson comes the first book in a young middle grade series about Ryan Hart, a ten-year-old girl who is pure spirit, kindness, and sunshine.
Ryan Hart has a lot on her mind--school, self-image, and especially family. Her dad finally has a new job, but money is tight. That means some changes, like selling their second car and moving into a new (old) house. But Ryan is a girl who knows how to make sunshine out of setbacks. As her brother says when he raps about her, she's got the talent that matters most: it's a talent that can't be seen, she's nice, not mean Ryan is all about trying to see the best in people, to be a good daughter, a good sister, a good friend. But even if her life isn't everything she would wish for, when her big brother is infuriating, her parents don't quite understand, and the unexpected happens, she always finds a way forward, with grace and wit. And plenty of sunshine. Acclaimed author Ren e Watson writes her own version of Ramona Quimby, one starring a Black girl and her family, in this start to a charming new series.

Recenzii

Without ever shying away from difficult topics such as racism and financial hardship, this is a positive, optimistic story. For readers who are going through tough or troubling times, this book will be a welcome dose of happiness
An important and deeply moving novel
Watson, with rhythm and style, somehow gets at . the life-changing power of voice and opportunity, all wrapped up in Jade
Timely and timeless
An adorable Middle Grade contemporary fiction novel about a young girl navigating her way through school, friendships and moving house. It was filled with fun adventures, fun surprises and lots of cute moments between Ryan Hart and her family and friends. She is a lovely character, and I love her confidence (even when it falters), her wit and her sense of adventure
What I loved about this book is that it is about making the best of things... about being kind, and about how it's the way that you act towards people that makes you beautiful, and it's about how you can stay friends with people even when you no longer see them every day
This narrative celebrates embracing your heritage, background and loving yourself. It's also packed with curious mystery and jokes
