The Bible is full of water stories. The first mention of water in the Bible is found in Genesis 1:2 and the last mention is found in Revelation 22:17. In between those two books water constantly flows throughout the pages of scripture with more than 700 references to the word in it. We will see in this book that water in the Bible symbolizes Jesus Christ. Just as water flows downward, our meek and humble Lord lowered himself from the highest throne to the earth to be born in a manger and ultimately suffer death. Just as water is the foundation of all life and a vital element of human life, the word of God is the source of life. Just as water washes everything clean, the blood of the cross cleanses all sins. Just as water is freely divided into many branches and seeps into everything, the body of the Lord was ripped apart and became the bread of life for all humankind. Just as water stops flowing when leveled off, our Lord has torn down walls among men to equalize and level all people. Just as small streams converge into a large river and waterpower turns into light, lowly people of God gather together as church to light up the world. Just as water flows into an ocean, the Lord took the cross as the Lamb of God and became the sacrifice for all the sins of humankind. Just as water is the measurement that defines high and low of elevation, heavy and light of weight, and hot and cold of temperature, the Lord is the measurement and the compass of human life.
