Fiecare capitol adaugă un strat de nesiguranță, transformând banalul cotidian într-un decor claustrofobic. Spre deosebire de atmosfera din The Girls in the Garden, unde pericolul era difuz, aici crima este punctul de plecare care forțează toate personajele să își dezvăluie adevărata față. Stilul este direct, tăios, fără ornamente inutile, concentrat pe mecanismele psihologice care duc la gesturi extreme.
