Warner Bros.: The Routledge Hollywood Centenary Series
Autor Richard Maltbyen Limba Engleză Paperback – 3 mai 2027
Drawing on a wide range of primary sources and examining the studio’s output from Peril of the Plains (1912) and Where the North Begins (1923) to Casablanca, Bonnie and Clyde, the Harry Potter franchise, the DC Extended Universe and Barbie (2023), the book explores the company’s innovations in cinema technology and the industry’s business structures from the introduction of sound to the creation of the first multimedia conglomerate in the 1970s. Warner Bros. was unique among the major Hollywood companies in being a family-owned and managed business and the book provides a chronological study of how the company’s management from Harry Warner to Steve Ross shaped its production practices and business strategies. It also highlights the contributions of the studio’s stars – Rin Tin Tin, John Barrymore, James Cagney, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Doris Day, Clint Eastwood – to its enduring image as the studio that came ‘as close to real life as Hollywood ever gets’.
Written in a clear and engaging style, this book’s compelling new perspective on the studio’s development will appeal to students and scholars of the film and media industries and to all readers interested in the history of Hollywood.

Recenzii
“Across his long career Richard Maltby has made many important contributions to Film Studies, and this is his magnum opus – in terms of its scope and depth, its complexity and insightfulness, and its sheer size. For both beginners and experts, there is so very much to be learnt here about Warner Bros. and American film history as a whole.”
