Unhemmed

Emel Zeyni Sevinç is a British Turkish writer whose work sits at the intersection of memory, migration, and identity. Born and raised in London, she holds a BA (Hons) in English Language and Creative Writing and has been working alongside communities whose stories are rarely given space. She has taught in secondary and further education and worked closely with people of refugee backgrounds and mental health patients since 2008. It was her own family's history of suitcases packed in hope that led her to found the 'More Than a Bundle Story' project: a storytelling initiative dedicated to preserving the experiences of Turkish migrant histories who arrived in Britain from the 1960s. The project was showcased at the Hackney Museum, the Yunus Emre Institute in collaboration with the Turkish Consulate, and to the London School of Economics, where she presented research on cultural identity through BATAS. Her writing has been published in Writerly Magazine, and her work has been presented at the Festival of Creativity organised by the Turkish Women's Philanthropic Association of England.Unhemmed is her debut novel.
