Ultra-Left Aesthetics

Editat de Abigail Susik, David Murrieta Flores
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 6 apr 2027
Ultra-left aesthetics examines the relationship between radical art and political action through a transnational study of visual culture since the 1960s. It proposes 'ultraleft aesthetics' as a critical framework for understanding artistic practices aligned with far-left political currents, positioning art as a form of direct action rather than representation. Through a series of case studies spanning Europe, Latin America, Asia and beyond, the volume explores how artists, collectives and affinity groups mobilised visual culture to intervene in social and political struggles. Contributors analyse practices emerging from insurrectionary poetics, counter-hegemonic image production and embedded engagement within social movements. By foregrounding creative praxis as a mode of political intervention, the book reframes the relationship between art, activism and theory. It challenges existing art-historical approaches and establishes a new field for analysing the tactical imagination of radical artistic production.
