First self-published in 1984 and quickly exploding into comics, cartoons, toys, and blockbuster films, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were themselves products of human-made environmental disaster. The Turtles’ amalgamation of influences made them a unique reflection of environmental justice in a green media ecosystem.

In Totally Radical, Boucher traces how "Turtlemania" paralleled environmental politics in the United States and compared with the largest group of millennials elected to the House of Representatives in 2018.
