What happens when everything you've built begins to collapse?
Through the Fire and the Flood is a deeply personal memoir about surviving trauma, searching for identity, wrestling with faith, and discovering that rebuilding is often more powerful than starting over.
Raised in New York City, Oscar Susana recounts a life marked by childhood adversity, violence, broken relationships, homelessness, anxiety, depression, ADHD, spiritual confusion, and seasons of isolation. Rather than hiding the difficult parts of his story, he invites readers into them with honesty and compassion.
Throughout the book, moments of despair are met with unexpected grace. Encounters with strangers, churches, mentors, friends, and quiet moments with God become stepping stones toward healing. Along the way, Oscar learns that restoration is not about becoming perfect-it is about allowing broken places to be rebuilt one layer at a time.
Built around the theme of architecture, the memoir presents rebuilding as a process:
  • Clear the Site
  • Lay the Foundation
  • Frame the Structure
  • Restore the Systems
  • Build with Purpose
More than a memoir about suffering, Through the Fire and the Flood is a story of hope. It speaks to anyone who has wrestled with trauma, shame, mental health challenges, addiction, grief, or the feeling that life has fallen apart.
Regardless of your background or beliefs, this book offers a message that healing is possible, purpose can be rediscovered, and even after the deepest fires and floods, something stronger can still be built.
"Again I will build you, and you shall be rebuilt."Jeremiah 31:4Endorsement
"Through the Fire and the Flood is a powerful testimony of God's faithfulness through seasons of hardship, uncertainty, and personal transformation. Oscar S. Susana shares his journey with honesty and vulnerability, showing how God can use even the most painful chapters of our lives to strengthen our faith and shape our purpose."
"This book will encourage readers who have experienced rejection, disappointment, spiritual struggles, or circumstances that seemed impossible to overcome. Oscar's story reminds us that the fire does not have to destroy us, and the flood does not have to carry us away. By the grace of God, our trials can become part of a greater testimony of redemption, perseverance, and hope."

Notă biografică

Oscar Susana is a New York-born writer, Christian storyteller, and advocate for honest conversations about faith, trauma, and mental health. Raised in the Bronx, he draws from his lived experiences with childhood instability, rejection, depression, ADHD, addiction, spiritual searching, and recovery. For more than two years, Oscar worked on his first memoir, Through the Fire and the Flood: The Architecture of Mercy. Through vulnerable storytelling and a construction-inspired framework, he shows how healing often happens gradually-one foundation, one decision, and one act of faith at a time.Oscar's writing reflects his belief that painful experiences do not have to define the final structure of a person's life. His work is intended to encourage readers who feel broken, overlooked, or uncertain about their purpose and to remind them that grace can rebuild what trauma has damaged. He continues to share messages of hope, resilience, redemption, and spiritual growth through his writing and online platform, Fire and the Flood.
