The Wonderling: Singing Tree

Arthur is the only Wonderling in the world--an eleven-year-old fox-boy with a pure heart and one ear to hear what others cannot. But in Lumentown, human-animal groundlings like Arthur and his friend Trinket (who resembles a kiwi--the bird, not the fruit) and mice like Peevil (who has the soul of a knight and rides in Arthur's pocket) are oppressed. When Arthur sings a song about hope at an underground tavern and inadvertently inspires a rebellion, the wicked Lord Thistletick and his Department of Groundling Control crack down even harder on the groundlings.
