Notă biografică
Frances Hodgson Burnett (24 November 1849-29 October 1924) was a British-American novelist
and playwright. She was known for her prolific career, which spanned over four decades and included
more than 40 novels and plays. Burnett was born in Cheetham, Manchester, England, but moved
to the United States in 1865 with her family, where she began writing to support them financially.
Her first published work, a story called 'Miss Carruthers' Engagement', appeared in Godey's Lady's
Book in 1868.
Burnett's most famous works include Little Lord Fauntleroy, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden,
all of which have been loved by generations of children for their engaging characters and timeless
messages. The Secret Garden, published in 1911, was inspired by Burnett's own love of gardening
and her experiences living in both England and the United States. The book has been adapted into
numerous stage plays, films and television shows over the years and remains a classic of children's
literature. Burnett's legacy as an author continues to inspire readers of all ages to this day.
