Premisa este pe cât de intensă, pe atât de simbolică. Hunter, un tânăr de șaptesprezece ani, tocmai a trecut prin operația de „top surgery” și este pregătit să își trăiască ultimele luni de liceu într-un corp în care se simte, în sfârșit, acasă. Însă un atac violent în pădure îi schimbă destinul: Hunter este mușcat de un vârcolac. Pe măsură ce trupul său începe să sufere schimbări pe care nu le poate controla, miza devine una contra-cronometru. Nu este vorba doar de supraviețuire fizică, ci de frica de a vedea cum identitatea și forma pentru care a luptat atât de mult se dizolvă sub impulsuri animale sălbatice.

Ca și Old Wounds, volumul anterior al autorului, această nouă scriere reușește să emoționeze și să provoace fiori fără a fi didactică, integrând firesc experiența trans într-o narațiune tensionată. Dacă în Old Wounds accentul cădea pe supraviețuirea într-o comunitate ostilă, The Transition mută focusul pe bătălia interioară. Stilul este alert, specific unui roman polițist sau horror, dar tonul rămâne tandru față de traumele și speranțele personajului principal. Este o lectură despre curajul de a-ți apăra propria integritate, într-o lume care încearcă constant să te schimbe.

Notă biografică

Logan-Ashley Kisner was born and raised in—and continues to wander around—Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from UNLV with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and a minor in film studies. As a transgender man and horror aficionado, he’s also spent the last few years as a historian, critic, and analyst of transgender characters and imagery used in the horror genre. He’s been published on several horror websites (including Dread Central and Slay Away with Us), and his reading of The Evil Dead as a trans narrative was published in Hear Us Scream: The Voices of Horror Volume II. He is the author of Old Wounds, The Transition, and Trans Panic!.

A transgender teen’s post-op recovery is derailed when he is bitten by a werewolf and his body begins to change. A haunting, thought-provoking page-turner that will keep you up all night!

Hunter’s life is at a turning point: After years of fighting his father for it, he’s gotten top surgery. He’s finally starting to feel comfortable in his own skin . . . only to be attacked by a strange creature in his backyard.
