Homer is the name traditionally given to the ancient Greek poet credited with composing The Iliad and The Odyssey. Little is known with certainty about his life, and scholars continue to debate whether the epics were created by a single poet or developed through generations of oral performance before being written down. He is generally believed to have lived during the eighth century BCE, possibly in the Greek-speaking regions of Asia Minor.The two epics attributed to Homer became the foundation of Greek education, literature, and cultural identity.
