Autor Jules Verne
en Limba Engleză Paperback
The Moon-Voyage: Illustrated by Jules Verne. Includes the original illustrations, 44 il. (1st) by Henri de Montaut (1868) and 43 il. (2nd) by Emile-Antoine Bayard and Alphonse de Neuville (1868-69). This work contains two titles: "From Earth to the Moon" and the sequel "Round the Moon." It tells the story of the Baltimore Gun Club, a post-American Civil War society of weapons aficionados, and their attempts to build an enormous sky-facing Columbiad space gun and launch three people - the Gun Club's president, his Philadelphian armor-making rival, and a French poet - in a projectile with the goal of a moon landing. Notable for the attempted to do some calculations and requirements for the cannon. The Moon-Voyage is an amazing work of science-fiction by Jules Verne. The author has picturesquely depicted the efforts of the three astronomers of the American Gun club. Their goal of landing on the moon seemed far-fetched and the mockery of those around them fuelled their ambition. Truly astounding "

Notă biografică

Jules Gabriel Verne (1828 - 1905) was a French novelist, poet and playwright best known for his adventure novels and his profound influence on the literary genre of science fiction. Verne was born to bourgeois parents in the seaport of Nantes, where he was trained to follow in his father's footsteps as a lawyer, but quit the profession early in life to write for magazines and the stage. His collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel led to the creation of the Voyages extraordinaires, a widely popular series of scrupulously researched adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).
