Sheriff Mark Bradbury had a pretty cushy gig policing a quiet community in southern New Jersey. That was, until people began disappearing off roads along the infamous Pine Barrens.

Investigative journalist Susan Wharton hasn't returned to her odd hometown since she left for college decades ago. When a puzzling missing-persons story emerges, giving her a shot at the coveted crime desk, she'll have to go back-and rekindle the estranged relationships she left behind with her mother, the old sheriff, and an old high school flame.

A strange tip connects these missing cases with a sinister serial killer from the '80s, and old rumors start flooding to the surface of the investigation. Together, they'll uncover an unimaginable evil lurking in the shadows of their town's troubled past.
