Dr. Hammes, is an organizational psychologist with extensive experience in management and human resource consulting. Prior to transitioning to corporate consulting, he was a clinician and manager in the public and private sectors in mental health care.
He founded a national consulting practice working with companies ranging from start-up to Fortune 100 and across a wide range of business and industry. His work included presidents, all levels of management and employees. He retained work and business relationships with many companies for more than twenty years, which is unusual in this business which typically works on a project basis and then moves on. He worked with companies to find the right personnel, develop their capabilities and assist managers with motivating and retaining their employees as well as the techniques to be effective leaders.

He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and graduate degrees from the University of Chicago and Northern Illinois University. Doctorate is focused in Learning and Developmental Psychology. He is the author of numerous articles on management, leadership, and employee development. In addition to developing his consulting firm, he has been an adjunct professor for industrial and other psychology courses at several Chicago area community colleges.
His wife, Barbara’s, career spanned speech pathology, school principal for the severe and profoundly disabled and assistant superintendent for a special education cooperative. He has two sons, one has a doctorate in English with a focus on transgender literature and the other has a near doctorate and is a therapist.

Dr. Richard Hammes was a key component of our success at our $30 million consumer goods company. Dr. Hammes contributed by assisting our organization in hiring key individuals at all levels of management, with a focus on aligning with our corporate culture and overall strategic plan. Dr. Hammes coordinated our team functioning/building efforts through his workbooks and individual evaluations resulting in a more cohesive team, helping us understand individual motivators, thereby streamlining communication. He was able to align his efforts to our strategic plan. Often it is difficult to interpret exactly how each organizational level relates to the success of the company strategy. Through his well-designed workbooks and processes Dr. Hammes helped all levels understand their role in our success. I also found Dr. Hammes valuable in personal coaching. His input and formats were a key part in helping navigate the daily challenges faced by upper management. I look forward to seeing the tools that Dr. Hammes will unveil in his forthcoming book.
Bill Schmidt former president of a consumer goods manufacturing and distribution company in Metropolitan Chicago
Dr. Hammes served our company for many years, leading the way toward a more cohesive and collaborative team of executives and employees. For me, he was a coach, mentor and encourager with the ability to find areas where improvement was called for. He has the ability to look you right in the eyes with candor yet always with empathy, sharing insights and challenging you to reach your potential. I could trust him. With upwards of 1,000 employees and over 2,000 agents, and the need for constant improvement, he became a trusted partner and confidant. In particular, for executives in transition, he built trust, developed a rapport with individuals after conducting assessments of his design and then in one-on-one sessions, helped them navigate their way to fulfilling careers.
Tom Sagehorn former Group President of a $1 billion Title Company and President of Land Title Insurance Company
Dr. Hammes’ straightforward methods greatly benefited both new and seasoned managers over several decades in our company. His approach has proven to be highly effective but also easy to understand and implement by novices. His work with us included communication, team functioning and objective assessments for career growth and development within the company. Dr Hammes also personally consulted with the owners and top management. These methods helped align the goals of our teams and give them a common language for performance management. Having these tools all collected in one place is a tremendous asset.
Scott Greiwe, former Owner of a $50 million plastic container manufacturing company.
Dr. Hammes has given our company tools for positive change and effective communication using a solid road map for our success.
Gayle Baird, president of an $18 million industrial machinery and equipment company.

Most often managers come up through the ranks of employees and are chosen because of their success, drive, abilities, education, other accomplishments, and personal factors. However, collectively their accomplishments as employees do not necessarily prepare them for managing and leading.
