The Lost Dog

Sometimes the bond between human and dog seems to reach beyond the natural world. This true and personal story shares an example of that bond.

Author Jim Blickenstaff was a mailman who had long since given up on getting another dog, believing that the ends of their short lives were too painful for him to bear again. One day, while walking on his route, he happened to meet a very special dog who appeared to be lost. The dog had no collar and no tag-and what's more, it was intent on following Jim home. He took care of the dog, which he called Scooter, and also searched for its owner. But he never imagined how much the lost dog would change his life-or that Scooter would bring a measure of peace to Jim's dying father.
