Putem afirma că autorul stăpânește perfect arta de a transforma un spațiu limitat într-o capcană metafizică. Notăm cu interes cum personajele încep să-și amintească detalii ale cabanei, deși este prima lor vizită oficială acolo. Cine a citit The Inheritance de Samantha Hayes va recunoaște aici motivul secretului patern lăsat moștenire ca o povară, însă The Homecoming duce totul în zona horror-ului visceral, unde trecutul nu doar bântuie, ci atacă. Credem că această lucrare reprezintă punctul de maturitate pentru Andrew Pyper. Dacă în Lost Girls explora misterul polițist cu nuanțe gotice, iar în The Demonologist se concentra pe mitologia demonică, aici combină cele două direcții. Tensiunea familială este palpabilă, iar amenințarea care pândește din întuneric subminează încrederea cititorului în realitatea faptelor prezentate. Ritmul este alert, marcat de o neliniște care crește cu fiecare zi petrecută de frați în munți. Este un roman despre latura întunecată a sângelui și despre cum cele mai periculoase secrete sunt cele pe care le-am uitat cu bună știință.

Notă biografică

Andrew Pyper was born in Stratford, Ontario, in 1968. He received a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from McGill University, as well as a law degree from the University of Toronto. Although called to the bar in 1996, he has never practiced.
