Have you ever heard that young people are apathetic? That's the common diagnosis that gets blamed for young people's engagement. Why? Because it's easy for that to be the scapegoat.
Wyatt Sharpe argues the diagnosis is wrong.
The problem is not that young people are tuned out of politics. They are tuned in closely enough to have concluded that the institutions asking for their participation have stopped answering them.
The Disillusioned Generation: Reclaiming Purpose in an Age of Broken Promises takes this understanding and compiles research and anecdotal evidence to explain how we can address the problem and how young people can best work to affect change.
Written by Wyatt Sharpe, a 17-year-old journalist who has interviewed hundreds of political figures across Canada and the United States, the book brings both the evidence and the vantage point of someone inside the generation being studied.
