The Dark Side 4: Critical Cases on the Downside of Business

Editat de Fernanda Sauerbronn, Elina Riivari, Albert J. Mills, Emmanuel Raufflet, Thauan Felipe Medeiros de Carvalho
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 3 mar 2027
The Dark Side 4: Critical Cases on the Downside of Business presents a collection of outstanding contributions from the Critical Management Studies (CMS) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM) that continues to challenge business practice in ways not tackled by other, more typical business case studies. It offers a unique approach by focusing on unhappy endings and the potential reflections and transformations.
The focus of The Dark Side series is to evaluate the multifaceted phenomena of doing business in the twenty-first century, to support critical, reflective moral development, and to reflect and understand the complexities of organizational life. The cases explore several critical issues at some of the largest industries and companies in the world, including wealth creation and human rights, CSR approaches, innovative business, and original people reparations. The book provides deep insights on contemporary cases that problematize and point to critical thinking skills regarding the downside of recent business practices. The book is accompanied by online analytical notes that enable insightful theorization and consequent reorientation of business practices.
Each chapter translates cutting-edge academic concepts from multiple MBA and graduate management courses into practical frameworks you can implement immediately. While academics can use the cases as a teaching resource, professionals can also leverage it as a comprehensive toolkit for solving today's most complex business challenges.

Recenzii

"The Dark Side of Business offers something still far too rare in management education: compelling cases that invite students to question, rather than simply emulate, business practice. This outstanding international collection exposes the harms, conflicts, and inequalities too often hidden from view—and equips students to imagine better ways of organizing."
Paul S. Adler, Harold Quinton Chair Emeritus in Business Policy and Professor Emeritus of Management and Organization, Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, USA
"I highly recommend this collection, particularly for PhD students and researchers discovering the significance and impact of critical organization studies. Its dark-side cases have long been a staple of our field, brilliantly advancing its goal of revealing structures of inequality and domination while highlighting essential stories of resistance and rebellion."
Marcos Barros, Full Professor, Grenoble Ecole de Management, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Organization: The critical journal of organization, theory & society, France
"This timely fourth edition brings the dark side of organizations vividly into the classroom. Its great strength is the geographical breadth of its cases, spanning Canada, Finland, Bolivia, Brazil, New Zealand, India, and beyond. The collection helps students to examine power, misconduct, ethics, and accountability across contrasting institutional contexts worldwide."
Rafael Alcadipani, Full Professor, Organization Studies, FGV EAESP – Fundação Getulio Vargas, São Paulo, Brazil
