Arthur Miller (17.10.1915 New York - 10.2.2005 in Roxbury), Sohn einer jüdischen Immigrantenfamilie, ist ein amerikanischer Autor und Drehbuchschreiber. Arthur Miller studiert nach der Schule Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Geschichte. Nachdem sein Stück »No Villain« zweifach prämiert wird, belegt er anglistische Literatur und Drama bis 1938 an der University of Michigan. Miller ist ein scharfer Gesellschaftskritiker, der etwa in »Death of a Salesman« (dt. »Tod eines Handlungsreisenden«) die amerikanische Erfolgsgesellschaft anprangert oder in »The Crucible« (dt. »Die Hexenjagd«) mit der Kommunistenverfolgung des US-Senators Joseph McCarthys hart ins Gericht geht. Für sein Engagement wurde Miller 2003 mit dem >Jerusalempreis für die Freiheit des Individuums in der Gesellschaft< ausgezeichnet. Arthur Miller war fünf Jahre mit Marylin Monroe verheiratet.
