The Analects

Autor Confucius Traducere de Arthur Waley
en Limba Engleză Hardback – mai 2001
Confucius is one of the most humane, rational, and lucid of moral teachers, concerned not with arcane metaphysics but with practical issues of life and conduct. What is virtue? What sort of life is most conducive to happiness? How should the state be ruled? What is the proper relationship between human beings and their environment?

In this classic translation of The Analects by Arthur Waley, the questions Confucius addressed two and a half millennia ago remain as relevant as ever.

Descriere

Descriere de la o altă ediție sau format:
Few individuals have shaped their country's civilization more profoundly than the Master Kong (Confucius, 551-479 BC). Compulsory reading in the late Imperial period for all who wished to enter the Civil Service or Government, his sayings and those of his disciples form the foundation of a distinct social, ethical, and intellectual system. They have retained their freshness and vigour throughout the two and a half millennia of their currency, and are still admired even in today's China. This lively new translation with clear explanatory notes by one of the foremost scholars of classical Chinese provides the ideal introduction to the Analects for readers who have no previous knowledge of the Chinese language and philosophical traditions. Confucius (551-479 BCE) was a philosopher, political figure, educator and founder of one of the major schools of thought in Chinese history. His teachings, preserved in the Analects, form the foundation of much of subsequent Chinese beliefs about how an individual should live his life and how an ideal society and government are organized.

Annping Chin is a senior lecturer of history at Yale and the author of several books about Chinese history including an acclaimed biography of Confucius, The Authentic Confucius: A Life of Thought and Politics. She has also co-authored, with Jonathan Spence, The Chinese Century: A Photographic History of the Last Hundred Years.
