Recenzii
“Multiplicative thinking is vital for students in grades 3-5. As a current upper grade teacher and previous elementary math coordinator I know that it doesn’t just happen. It requires lots of listening to student thinking and identifying their current understandings in solving multiplication and division problems (contextual and non-contextual) to determine instructional next steps. This book is an essential and welcome resource for elementary teachers in responding to students’ thinking as it supports teachers, individually and collectively, with a student-centered approach to moving all students towards multiplicative thinking before they reach middle school. How this is done is just as important as what and why it is done and the author advocates for putting student sense making, mathematical discourse, and problem solving at the center in this journey towards multiplicative thinking. I learned so much in reading this book and I can’t wait to engage in a book study and collaborative cycles of inquiry around the ideas and tasks found in its pages with my colleagues.”
Joseph Espinosa, Fifth Grade Teacher and former Elementary Math Coordinator at Los Angeles Unified School District, CA
“In this book, James Brickwedde successfully captures the ideas of multiplication and multiplicative thinking through stories and examples drawn from his experiences teaching both students and teachers. Importantly, he communicates these ideas with clarity and energy. This perspective allows him to showcase the concepts in ways that readers can readily understand and translate into their own teaching. I cannot wait to share this book with my pre-service teachers. I only wish I had access to these ideas when I first began teaching many years ago!”

Descriere
Student Developmental Progressions in Multiplication and Division supports teachers in interpreting elementary students’ thinking and responding instructionally as they learn mathematics. This book demystifies students’ maturations from additive to multiplicative, empowering teachers to be more strategic in their decision-making.
