Stress Echocardiography

Autor Eugenio Picano
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 13 dec 2014
Over the past twenty years, stress echocardiography has developed into a well-established technique that is versatile, patient friendly, and relatively inexpensive. This new, extensively revised and enlarged edition of Stress Echocardiography documents all of the very significant advances made since the fourth edition. The early chapters place the technique within a historical context and describe its pathophysiological basis. Thereafter, all aspects of stress echocardiography are discussed, clearly and in detail, by the distinguished pioneer, Eugenio Picano, and other contributors carefully selected for their expertise. Both mainstream and emerging applications are explained, and systematic comparisons with competing and complementary cardiac imaging techniques are provided. The text is supported by a large number of high-quality illustrations. This book is invaluable not only to cardiologists but also to non-experts, such as technicians and students.

Recenzii

From reviews of the previous editions:
"Dr. Picano, one of the pioneers of stress echo, describes the pathophysiological basis of the technique extremely well. In addition, both the advantages and the limitations of the method are covered in a clear and comprehensive way. The book will be useful to cardiologists and even 'non-experts' such as echo technicians and students" (CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH)
"A narrative and enjoyable styleà An extremely valuable and important book for those who practice stress echo and are interested in clinical and scientific aspects of the method." (DER INTERNIST)
From the reviews of the fourth edition:
"The book is written for physicians and sonographers practising stress echocardiography and for beginners … . The book provides an up-to-date, extensive and comprehensive coverage of various means of performing stress echocardiography, the implications that each suggest with diagnostic flow charts, the new technological developments with their applications …. . At present it is the only existing book covering all aspects of stress echocardiography. This book is a pleasure to read and reflects the tremendous contribution of dr. Picano in this field." (Bharati Shivalkar, Acta Cardiologica, Vol. 59 (4), 2004)

Textul de pe ultima copertă

This is the seventh edition of a long-selling book (first edition 1991) that was translated into Italian, French, Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, English. In the last ten years, stress echocardiography has exploded in its breadth and variety of applications.  From a one-fits-all approach (wall motion by 2D-echo in the patient with known or suspected coronary artery disease), the field has progressed to an omnivorous, next-generation laboratory employing a variety of technologies (from M-Mode to 2D, from pulsed, continuous, color and tissue Doppler to lung ultrasound) on patients covering the entire spectrum of severity (from elite athletes to patients with end-stage heart failure) and ages (from children with congenital heart disease to the elderly with aortic stenosis). This new edition is enriched with over 300 figures, 150 tables and   video-clips.  In a societal and economic climate of increasing pressure for appropriate, justified and optimized imaging, stress echocardiography offers the great advantages of being radiation-free, relatively low cost, with minimal environmental impact, and with a staggering versatility: we can get more (information) with less (cost and risk).
The volume will be a tremendous aid to current best practices for all health operators who intend to use stress echocardiography and ultrasound for diagnosis and guidance of optimal management  in their patients
