In the arid desert hills of California a family of friends must come to grips with the peculiar gifts bestowed by two Strangers. As society collapses around them, they live and learn to cope with their newly found abilities while sheltered in an environment of benign monotony. And then, they must re-emerge into a new world as it emerges from the ruins of the world they once knew.
