In July 1995, despite clear warnings and the presence of UN troops, Bosnian Sorbs at Srebrenica perpetrated the single worst war crime since the end of the Second World War. While the world stood by and watched, Sorb forces advanced into the 'safe area' in eastern Bison and rounded up tens of thousands of Bosnian Muslims. Some twenty thousand Muslim women and children were deported; thousands of unarmed Muslim men--soldiers and civilians alike--were summarily murdered.
