This book combines the methods of corpus linguistics, lexicography, and language biography to assess a person’s language awareness from language usage data. Based on a dynamic process-oriented theory of language, it discusses mechanisms for the emergence of structures that are characteristic of standard speech, variations, and multi-lingual situations.
