Slocum’s having trouble sleeping in Abilene. The town’s overrun with rowdy, drunken cowboys, but what’s really got him wide awake is Mac, the man who just shot open his hotel room door accusing him of stealing his wife, Martha. When he reaches the saloon in the dying town of Gantt, he discovers a bounty hunter on his trail—and an angry woman with a shotgun, saying he killed her husband.
